It has been said that you can't tell Pinot Noir what to do. It has to express itself. At Tantalus, we'd like you to taste the results of our passion for growing Pinot Noir and our willingness to allow the terroir of our very special vineyard to shine through the wine.
Winemaker David Paterson describes the 2010 vintage as deep maroon in color and exhibiting aromas of brown sugar, violets and Bing cherry. "An attractive earthy character just starting to immerge, promises great things to come as the wine ages. The palate is a dance between rhubarb pie, wild raspberry and lush plum. The tannin structure runs between dusty and velvety and gives structure and mouth presence while maintaining elegance. The finish is long, providing ample opportunity to savour the wines single vineyard provenance."
Vineyard conditions at our South East Kelowna site were somewhat cooler in comparison to the unusually warm 2009 vintage. This bode well for our Pinot Noir vines as they tend to thrive in slightly cooler conditions, producing excellent ripeness while maintaining just the right amount of tannin and acidity. Viticulture practices followed our long held ethos of sustainability, through the use of organic composts and soil preparations, hand weeding and minimal watering. Vine balance is our watchword.
This wine was produced from 2005 and 2006 Dijon plantings and 1985 Spatburgunder plantings. It was aged in a combination of new and old French barrique for 12 months.
