2019 Blanc de Blancs

Our vineyard site has long produced fine bubbly - hearkening back to the Pioneer Vineyard days with the Dulik family, with some of the original clonal selections chosen for their makeup to produce great sparkling wine.

We are immensely proud to carry on this tradition and in doing so help further the evolution of quality, traditional method sparklings from the Okanagan Valley.

A golden flax in colour, our 100% Chardonnay, Blanc de Blancs carries fine bubbles and persistent textured mousse. Showcasing lively notes of candied lemon peel and oyster shell, pie crust and orange blossom. As it evolves in the glass, aromatic complexities emerge; wet stone and rain water offer depth and interest.

The palate is lean and focused with flinty and citrus tones, tangerine peel and a touch of grapefruit and green apple. Elegant, yet with no shortage of concentration and length. We see this signature release developing beautifully over the next 5 to 7 years.

This traditional method sparkling was crafted from a single block of our Chardonnay plantings, picked on the 3rd of September with pristine acidity. The base wine was fermented in a selection of seasoned puncheons and barrique barrels and aged on fermentation lees until May of 2020. The wine underwent secondary fermentation in bottle and was aged for 22 months on secondary lees. Disgorgement took place in March of 2022 with the addition of a 4 g/L dosage of our 2019 still Chardonnay.

"This pristine and racy blanc de blancs comes off one block of chardonnay, and was fermented in older puncheons and barrique, remaining there on lees until the following May when it headed to bottle for 2nd ferment. It remained en triage for 22 months, and was disgorged in March 2022 with 4 g/L dosage of 2019 Chardonnay.
Green apple crisp, with echoes of lemon peel, anise, verbena, and broken stones that linger through a well-placed herbal lees bed and along the saline finish. This positively hums with energy, and rings with Northern Okanagan. Stunner."

  • VINTAGE NOTES

Our 2019 growing season was not without its challenges. Winter started unusually warm and dry but took a turn late in the season with sustained temperatures below -20 C arriving in February. Vines suffered from a range of winter damage. As a result, drawn out and uneven bud break was evident in several of our vineyard pockets. Conditions turned more favourable in May allowing delayed shoots to catch up. However, rain set in towards the end of June and periods in July, keeping the vineyard team on their toes regarding crop protection and canopy work. A warm and dry August gave us ideal ripening conditions and set us up for harvest to begin on schedule.

Dodging rain showers throughout the rest of September, harvest continued until early October when the first frost caused the vine canopy to drop and us to bring in the remaining parcels of fruit. Although yields are shy from 2019, the wines have so far emerged as beautifully nuanced with restrained alcohols and purity of fruit.
