A delicate cherry blossom pink, this wine radiates big, juicy aromas of watermelon jolly rancher, rose petal, rhubarb and wild strawberry. The palate is alive with pomelo and pink grapefruit, white cranberry and plum. Bright, balanced and delicious not to mention ready for all the Spring and Summer time fare you have planned.
Our 2018 release is a 50/50 blend of young vine Pinot Noir complemented by more mature plantings of Pinot Meunier, first planted on our site in 1985. The Pinot Noir base was made with lightly pressed, whole bunch clusters giving us beautiful lifted aromatics. The Pinot Meunier was also gently handled and spent just over 4 days on skins to give the wine its brilliant colour. By fermenting to near dry, the vibrancy of the fruit character shines through unimpeded.
After a cold winter with high snowfall, the growing season got off to a slower start compared to seasonal averages. True bud break took place during the first week of May; slightly later than seasonal averages. In contrast, the summer was hotter than average and sunny days made up for the late spring. Although smoke haze from regional fires was present during parts of summer, it actually mitigated hot temperatures. The result was a slowing of the ripening phase, preventing sugar from accumulating too quickly over such a hot period. Smoke taint was a concern for some areas of the valley, however, we saw no influence on our wines. Overall our crop was slightly lower than average, leading to beautifully concentrated wines with great pedigree and ageability.
