2023 Old Vines Riesling

From vines planted in 1978, our Old Vines Riesling offers a direct line to the history of this vineyard. Year after year, this release speaks to the purity, energy, and sense of place that have long defined our site in the East Kelowna Slopes.

Pale yellow-green in the glass, the wine opens with lifted aromas of lime zest, orange blossom and green tea leaf, with subtle notes of mandarin and lemon oil. The palate is precise and concentrated, showing white grapefruit flesh, nectarine and a hint of roasted pineapple. Layers of orange marmalade and bright lime pith bring both texture and tension, carrying through to a long, chalky mineral finish. Fresh yet structured, this Riesling shows excellent potential for ageing, where added depth and complexity will unfold with time.

WINEMAKER'S NOTES

Our 2023 Old Vines Riesling showcases all four of our mature Riesling blocks, originally planted in 1978 with Clone 21B. The majority of this wine, however, comes from our “Block 5,” a two-acre parcel bordered by ten acres of mature ponderosa pines along its western and northern edges. These towering pines provide shade in the late afternoon and evening, creating dappled light exposure that slows ripening in late summer and early autumn.

Given the warm growing season, fruit was hand-picked early on September 21st, gently whole-cluster pressed, and settled into stainless steel. Fermentation proceeded steadily at cool temperatures, and the wine spent three months on fermentation lees before bottling. Our approach in the cellar remains intentionally simple, letting the purity of these historic vines speak. As always, after bottling in late winter, the wine rests for two years before release.
